Starbucks Expands Mobile Footprint With Starbucks Card Mobile App for BlackBerry Smartphones
WHAT: Starbucks announced its next mobile move for the Starbucks Card program with the introduction of the Starbucks Card Mobile App for BlackBerry® smartphones on Sept. 2. This marks the first platform expansion since the introduction of the app for iPhone and iPod touch last September. Customer interest in Starbucks mobile applications combined with feedback on My Starbucks Idea drove the decision to bring the Starbucks Mobile Card to a variety of BlackBerry smartphones including the BlackBerry® Curve™ series, BlackBerry® Storm™ series and BlackBerry® Tour to strengthen Starbucks mobile connection with customers.
The Starbucks Card Mobile Application has five key features designed to save customers time and give them access to their Starbucks Card and My Starbucks Rewards information on their BlackBerry smartphones. The Starbucks Card Mobile App allows users to:
- Check their Starbucks Card balance
- Reload Starbucks Card account with any major credit card
- Pay for Starbucks purchases using the mobile payment feature in more than 1,000 Starbucks in U.S. Target stores and in 16 trial stores in Seattle and Northern California.
- Find nearby Starbucks stores with a store locator feature
- Check their My Starbucks Rewards status
The mobile application builds on the success of the Starbucks Card program. It is expected that customers will load more than $1 billion dollars on Starbucks Cards this year. Through the years, the Starbucks Card has grown from a popular stored-value card to a significant method of payment in stores. Today, nearly one in five transactions in U.S. Starbucks stores are paid for with a Starbucks Card. Additionally, the My Starbucks Rewards program, which rewards and recognizes customers, is growing with over 1 million Gold-level members to date. Customers join the three-tiered My Starbucks Rewards by registering any Starbucks Card and earn stars based on purchases made with the card at participating stores. Gold level status is achieved after earning 30 stars in a 12-month period.
